HAPPY LEAP DAY!!!
So far I have 1 student enrolled online. I have faxed two more this morning and am waiting to see how many more I will have by days end!
Meeting tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM for FUND RAISING efforts. Come prepared to work. Bring food if you would like.
Here is the letter I sent to your parents, in case it gets lost. follow-up-letter.doc Spanish Version
Here is a copy of the SPONSORSHIP LETTER. sponsors.doc Spanish Sponsors
Remember–when looking for sponsors/donations it is best to ask in person. Take the letter with you to leave as a reminder, in case they have to talk to someone else before giving a donation. You need to practice what you will say–you need to explain what our trip is about (HOW IT IS EDUCATIONAL & FUN!), why we are trying to raise the money (because it’s too much money for many of our families), why you deserve to go on this trip, and what YOU WILL DO FOR THE donation money: I will be writing letters to thanks, as will you as students, I will be writing to the Newspaper on several occasions thanking all support received, we will also look into purchasing a sign or t-shirts with all sponsors names on it/them.
2/27/08 Update
Jamestown is definitely a possibility. The students who were at the meeting (uh, why wasn’t EVERYONE at the meeting???) decided to go for the Jamestown option and here’s why:
for $30 additional per person
- We lose a night in Boston, but still see everything in Boston, including the Hocus Pocus walk through Salem!
- We will get a 1 1/2 hour tour of Philadelphia, skip the Constitution Center (which is a museum), and not spend the night in Philadelphia.
- Spend 2 nights in Williamsburg and get to do and see all that Williamsburg and Jamestown have to offer. Williamsburg is a working colonial village–it looks and works like it did in the 1700s. Go to the website for Colonial Williamsburg to see what’s in store for us: http://www.history.org/
- Jamestown can be found here: http://www.historicjamestowne.org/visit/
This makes the trip the original price of $1,768/person.
Are you ready to enroll? Do you have the application filled out? Are you/your parents simply waiting for payday?
If so, you can still qualify for the $50 off the total package price AND receive the FREE T-SHIRT by enrolling by the end of February. How, you ask?
Bring in your completed enrollment application, with the date your parents plan on making the first $150 payment and I can get you enrolled. Enrolling reserves your spot on the trip AND gets you the FREE T-SHIRT.
What are you waiting for?
Next fund raising meeting will be this Saturday, March 1st @ 9:30AM in my room.
2/26/08 Update
Please remember to thank all the parents who attended the parent meeting last night. I worked hard to begin the presentation and Spanish and don’t think I messed it up too horribly bad!

Those who attended the first student meeting this afternoon–THANK YOU!!! We are all going to have to work together to earn as much money as possible. Here is a list of things we decided at this first meeting:
-
- It is an “unofficial club”–with “unofficial officers”–who are rather important!
- President–Maura
- Vice President–Allen
- Secretary–Adriana
- All monies raised through our fundraisers will be split equally between ALL students who participate in 85% or more of the fund raising activities–this includes all “unofficial meetings” and actual fund raisers.
- You all generated a serious list of fund raisers and we are well on our way to planning for this trip! It will take work, WoRk, and more WORK!!!! from everyone involved.
- Next student meeting–WEDNESDAY, February 27, 2008. We need to get a lot (I know, English teacher using those words!) done! Show up with a few bucks and we will order pizza!
- It is an “unofficial club”–with “unofficial officers”–who are rather important!
Remember–anyone who enrolls (fills out application online/phone/mail and sends the first $150) will get a FREE T-SHIRT! What does it look like–I don’t know, but it’s FREE!
Also, the deadline for enrollment is tentatively scheduled for March 28, 2008–one month away! Get out there and babysit, mow lawns, or anything else to help your parents come up with that first $150!
Any student who enrolls by March 28th will also receive $50 off the trip price! (If every student enrolls by this date–means $1750 off our fund raising goal!)
